Mairis Briedis considering moving up to heavyweight this spring

Briedis is most recently coming off a WBSS win over Yuniel Dorticos last September.

With IBF cruiserweight titleholder Mairis Briedis feeling quite accomplished in his division, most recently coming off a WBSS tournament win, the Latvian fighter tells RingTV that he’s hoping for even more glory, expecting to make his ring return this spring — possibly at heavyweight.

“We’re planning maybe we are going to heavyweight; this is a new challenge for me. With this situation in the world, every day something changes. I hope to be back in the ring at the end of March. Probably at heavyweight.”

Such a move at age 36 could present some real challenges for Briedis, who would be going up against physically larger men. And if Briedis has genuine world title aspirations at heavyweight, the current crop of top heavyweights could be some truly imposing opponents.

But if Briedis does go through with a run at heavyweight, how well do you think he will fare? Do you think Briedis could capture and major hardware in the division? Sound off below...
