After wiping out Wanik Awdijan last weekend, Chris Eubank Jr. intends to squeeze a major fight into the end of 2021. He tells Sky Sports that he’ll return in “a big fight or a world title fight in December,” naming former title challenger Liam Williams as the “frontrunner” to welcome him back.
“The Machine” (23-3-1, 18 KO) went from dropping two controversial fights to Liam Smith to rampaging through the domestic scene, knocking out seven consecutive opponents to earn a crack at Demetrius Andrade. “Boo Boo” proved a step too far, however, setting the tempo with a second-round knockdown and cruising to a unanimous decision.
Even with that setback, he’s Eubank’s (31-2, 23 KO) best opponent since Matt Korobov janked his shoulder in their December 2019 meeting. Eubank theoretically has a mandatory shot at the winner of Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Ryota Murata, and an impressive performance against a tough customer in Williams would be a much-needed notch in his belt.
Plus, these two figure to collide head-on and beat the snot out of one another until somebody falls over, so I’m more than okay with this matchup.
