Notes: Mairis Briedis took care of business very easily against Artur Mann on Saturday, which was as expected. It was never a good fight. The target is now Lawrence Okolie, which is the fight to make at cruiserweight for various reasons, the biggest being that it’s by far the best money fight in the division. Hopefully Eddie Hearn and the Sauerlands can get it done. They should be able to, there’s really no reason for it to not happen.

Notes: Chris Eubank Jr won his mismatch on Saturday, proving nothing new but he did get active, and now Sky’s plan is to match him against Liam Williams, possibly in December. I think that’s a hell of a good fight, both have particular strengths and weaknesses and might match up really nicely for entertainment.

Notes: Saturday was a real disaster for Mikey Garcia, who was flat out-boxed by Sandor Martin, a European-level junior welterweight. Martin didn’t suddenly become a top 10 welterweight, and you’ll see below I also don’t think he’s a top 10 junior welterweight, either. The Mikey Garcia who fought Jessie Vargas would have beaten Martin, and I wasn’t that wild about Mikey’s showing against Vargas, either. Garcia was flat and trigger-shy against Martin, looked like he had no sincere desire to be there. As we’ve talked about already, he has some real questions to ask of himself right now, the biggest being whether or not he really wants to fight anymore.
With Garcia out, Kudratillo Abdukakhorov comes in at No. 10. Others considered were Eimantas Stanionis, Conor Benn, Josesito Lopez, Rashidi Ellis, and Abel Ramos.

Notes: Emanuel Navarrete’s win over Joet Gonzalez was tough and solid, also clear and there’s no need for a rematch despite Mark Kriegel pushing the idea. With the win, I’m pushing Navarrete to No. 1 in the division, because Gary Russell Jr is un-serious. I still think Russell’s skill set — even faded a hair — is a nightmare for anyone in this division, but the man just doesn’t fight, and when he does, he’s happy to not fight top contenders.
That said, I do have the feeling he might get his long-awaited bout with Leo Santa Cruz in December; probably not, but Santa Cruz wants to fight in December, and now it’s clear Russell will not be fighting Rey Vargas, who is staying at 122 and fighting on the Canelo-Plant card. Maybe PBC have something in the hopper with Santa Cruz and Russell finally. Again, probably not — it’s a lot to hope for with, well, both of them, honestly — but the chance seems to be there.

Notes: Made some minor changes. I’ve put Savannah Marshall in at No. 8 following her dominant title defense on Saturday; I just think it’s really hard to watch Marshall fight and say she isn’t clearly one of the top women’s fighters in the world, and we appear to be headed for the highly-anticipated Shields-Marshall fight in 2022, as they’ll share a bill in the UK on Dec. 11. I absolutely love that fight.
