Vergil Ortiz wants shot at Yordenis Ugas, doesn’t see why it can’t happen next

Ortiz says he’s ready for his shot at a major world title.

During a conversation with Fight Hype, rising welterweight Vergil Ortiz discusses the state of his career and where he wants to go next, saying he believes he’s ready for a world title shot and would love to get a fight against Yordenis Ugas next. Check out some excerpts of what Ortiz had to say below...

On his interest in fighting Ugas

“I would love that fight. If we could get that fight next, I would love that. And I don’t see why not, you know, I have the WBA gold, I’m kinda basically under him. So with that being said, as far as how the fight’s gonna play out, I really don’t know. It would be an exciting fight, I’ll tell you that, that’s pretty much the only thing I’m for sure on.

“I feel like ‘why shouldn’t that fight happen?’ Like I said, I right under him and maybe I get a mandatory or something and we can make it happen.

“I feel like this last fight really pushed it for me, like gave me more credibility that I fought a really good fighter last fight, I think I did pretty well, and I’m ready for a world title fight. You really can’t say no to me anymore, it’s a matter of time before it happens.
