With Canelo Alvarez set to return on Feb. 27 to defend his WBC and WBA super middleweight titles against WBC mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim, DAZN have released the official fight poster for the event. I always like fight poster art, and I know some of you do, too, so here it is:
Obviously the fight is pretty exclusively promoted around Canelo. WITNESS HIM! WITNESS GREATNESS! That’s wise, as Canelo (54-1-2, 36 KO) is currently about a 30-to-1 favorite, and frankly that might be kind for the chances of Yildirim (21-2, 12 KO).
The appeal here is simply about seeing Canelo, arguably the best fighter in the sport today, in action again. And, hey, you never know. Mauricio Lara just beat Josh Warrington, those weren’t drastically different odds. Andy Ruiz Jr beat Anthony Joshua. Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson. And so on and so forth.
Anyway, if Alvarez wins handily as expected, he’s expected to unify with WBO titlist Billy Joe Saunders on May 8, also on DAZN.
