Tyson Fury: I’ll do to Anthony Joshua what I did to Deontay Wilder, says Saunders can beat Canelo

The top heavyweight says he’ll bring the fight straight to Anthony Joshua if the fight happens.

Tyson Fury, holder of the WBC heavyweight title and also LINEAL!!!!!! champion of the world, looks like he’ll be fighting Anthony Joshua next — that’s not set in stone, but the signs are good from all involved promoters (there are three of them, it’s not the easiest thing), the WBO seem to be on board with sanctioning it and allowing it to be a true undisputed championship fight, and the target right now is May or June.

Fury hasn’t fought since he took the WBC belt from Deontay Wilder a little under a year ago now, as he tried to get back out for a tune-up in December, but ultimately it didn’t happen. All eyes are on the fight with Joshua at this point, and he spoke with Gareth Davies recently about AJ, his pal Billy Joe Saunders likely fighting Canelo Alvarez in May, Ryan Garcia’s recent win over Luke Campbell, plus a lot more.

You can watch the full video up top, but here are a few highlights:

On the fight with Anthony Joshua

“[I’ll approach Anthony Joshua] just like I did with Wilder. They said he’s going to box and move, he ain’t going to put it on ya. What did I do? Straight at it, bombs all the way through until he got stopped. ... [There’s no danger because] I’ve got a bigger heart. Tougher. Mentally stronger. Physically stronger. Bigger man completely. Punch harder. Everything is in my favor. When I take it to them, they can’t handle it. It’s like wrestling with a T-Rex. They can’t win. ... I’m indestructible, unbeatable. Can’t be beat. If I’m injury free and active, there’s no losing. Can’t lose.”

On his friend Billy Joe Saunders facing Canelo Alvarez

“Billy Joe Saunders can beat any middle, super middle in the world, not a problem. No one has a chance with him when he’s active, just like no heavyweight’s got a chance with me when I’m active. Me and Billy Joe Saunders, we are not journeymen. We are not in boxing for a payday. We’re not in boxing to make some numbers up and get a few extra million quid in our bank. Not interested. We would rather have zero money and win than take fights we’re not ready for. He needs to be active and he will punch Canelo Alvarez all around the ring. Canelo Alvarez’s kryptonite is someone who boxes and moves — southpaw, slick, good feet, good hand speed, good power. Billy Joe Saunders does all of that but he needs to be active.”

On Ryan Garcia beating Luke Campbell and Garcia’s future

“I thought it was a good test for him. Luke’s a very accomplished guy and he’s only lost to world champions. It was a good learning fight for Garcia. Luke Campbell did very well, but in the end Garcia showed his true value and a true champion can get up off the floor and win fights. We’ve seen it with Muhammad Ali, Tyson Fury, and Ryan Garcia now. Until a champion gets knocked down and get back up to win a fight, it’s always a question if he can or can’t.”
