Devin Haney ignites social media beef with Vasiliy Lomachenko

Let’s see if it leads to an actual fight.

Devin Haney is clearly itching for some action as he took to Twitter last night to call out Vasiliy Lomachenko in a tweet, asking where the Ukrainian fighter has been as of late. It wasn’t long before Lomachenko took the bait and responded.

Haney would then take the opportunity to snipe back at Lomachenko, telling him that ‘waiting’ too long is exactly what handed him his most recent loss to Teofimo Lopez in their lightweight unification bout.

Haney would get the last word in — at least for the moment — as he brought up the fact that he was willing to face Loma when he was in line as his mandatory, before Loma took the WBC’s franchise title instead, relieving him of mandatory defense obligations with the organization.

Haney has been on the hunt for a marquee opponent for what feels like forever now, but still hasn’t managed to land an elite lightweight opposite him to truly validate his talent. Haney last outpointed an aging Yuriorkis Gamboa this past November who was coming off an Achillies tear, in what amounted to be a ho-hum fight.

Meanwhile Lomachenko himself has been out of action since his loss to Lopez last October with no clear indication as to when he’ll make a return. But with both of these fighters talking it up on Twitter, perhaps now is as good a time as any for them to square off in the ring.
