The self-proclaimed ‘GWOAT’ will be back in the ring this weekend as Claressa Shields is set to face Marie-Eve Dicaire in a women’s junior middleweight title unification. Dicaire enters this fight with an unbeaten record and a world title, but is a clear underdog on the betting lines in this outing.
Speaking to RingTV about her fight against Shields, Dicaire says she’s relishing the upcoming opportunity, and that the underdog label is only a challenge that she’s using as motivation to put on a great performance in the ring.
“I love challenges, and I always said that I wanted to be the best, and to do that, you have to go through fights like this. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime. Since I was a kid, I dreamed of an opportunity like this to show my skills, talent, and passion for my sport. And now that I have this opportunity, I want to seize it.”
Dicaire would continue by saying that she believes her mental toughness will make a difference in this fight and that she hopes to inspire others to dream big and not be deterred by the opinions of others. To that end Dicaire says this is more than just a fight for her. But in between the ropes a fight will take place, and Dicaire says she looks forward to displaying the improvements she’s been making in the gym.
And thus far Dicaire says she feels great about her preparation for this fight, saying no matter what happens she’ll leave the ring proud knowing she’s done everything in her power to prepare for the moment, though she still only has thoughts of victory in her mind. Whether or not Dicaire’s preparation has be enough, we’ll certainly know by the end of the week.
