It appears that Joseph Parker is looking to take a new approach fresh off his most recent win over Junior Fa. Sky Sports is reporting that Parker has just enlisted Andy Lee, the former middleweight titleholder, as his new coach going forward after recently splitting with longtime trainer Kevin Barry.
Parker is expected to take on Derek Chisora in his next outing, and in preparation for that fight Parker will try to impart a more aggressive ‘Kronk Gym’ style, from which Lee is strongly accustomed having spent many years in that system. Parker’s manager David Higgins shared these words about the addition of Lee.
“He’s schooled in the Emanuel Steward method at the Kronk gym, having lived with Emanuel,” said Higgins. “He’s an experienced boxer, who was also a world champion. He’ll be young and hungry by trainer standards, but he’s got good credentials, and we’ve heard good things.”
It’s being reported that Lee, who worked with Tyson Fury for his rematch against Deontay Wilder, was personally recommended by Fury himself. That said, it will be interesting to see how the pairing works out and if Lee can effectively tailor Parker’s style after 30 professional fights.
