Eddie Hearn updates on Canelo-Saunders venue, Fury-Joshua negotiations, and much more

Eddie Hearn dropped a bunch of tidbits on Instagram.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn did another Instagram Q&A for fans to send in Q’s for A’s, and touched on a lot of big topics including Canelo-Saunders, Fury-Joshua, Estrada-Chocolatito 2, Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor, Amir Khan (!), Haney-Linares, and more.

  • On Fury vs Joshua, Hearn replied with an hourglass emoji and a thumbs up emoji. (Fury doesn’t sound so confident anymore.) The promoter says the plan is still for a summer date.
  • He sees Estrada-Chocolatito 2 on Saturday as a 50/50 fight, and called it “one of the best I’ve ever put on.” [Don’t miss the fight, sign up for DAZN!]
  • He called Canelo vs Saunders a “tremendous fight and Billy is definitely Canelo’s biggest threat.” Says the venue will be announced “this Saturday or very soon after,” and indicated it will be either Las Vegas or Dallas.
  • There will be a crowd for Povetkin-Whyte 2 on March 27 in Gibraltar. As for Whyte, he said he’d love to see him fight Deontay Wilder after, but “all eyes on Povetkin.”
  • Amir Khan and Hearn will meet next week to discuss a possible next fight for the 34-year-old Khan, who hasn’t fought since the summer of 2019.
  • On Devin Haney vs Jorge Linares: “Brilliant fight! Hopefully we can bring this to you in May.”
  • On women’s boxing news: Hearn thinks Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall is “a must,” and says Katie Taylor’s next fight will be “announced early next week, it’s a cracker.”
  • Josh Warrington will rematch Mauricio Lara at Headingley Stadium.
  • Following his loss to David Avanesyan in February, Josh Kelly may move to 154 pounds. Similarly, Luke Campbell could soon move up to 140 after a long run at lightweight.
  • Derek Chisora’s next fight will also be announced at the beginning of next week. It’s expected he’ll fight Joseph Parker, but not guaranteed.
  • On junior lightweight Joe Cordina: “Ever since I watched him in the amateurs I’ve believed Joe will be world champ.” Cordina returns on the Okolie-Glowacki card on March 20.
  • The ordered IBF eliminator between Filip Hrgovic and Michael Hunter is “in negotiations.” “It’s a brilliant fight, hopefully it gets made soon.”
  • A fight between James Tennyson and Ricky Burns is “pretty much done, working on May date.”
  • Joshua Buatsi will headline a May 15 Matchroom card.
  • A rematch between Scott Fitzgerald (back in April) and Anthony Fowler (back on March 20) is being planned for the “back end of summer with crowds.”
  • Heavyweight prospect Johnny Fisher, who made his debut on Feb. 20, will be back in May.
