While Teofimo Lopez recently said he’d be fighting George Kambosos Jr on May 29, another date has popped up from another fighter on the card.
Antonio Tarver, who will face Frank Mir on the undercard, said on Instagram the fights will be happening June 5 in Miami. Lopez also said Miami was the likely destination for the show, which will be produced by Triller Fight Club on pay-per-view.
Lopez (16-0, 12 KO) will defend his WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight titles — and sure, the WBC, why not, who cares — against Kambosos (19-0, 10 KO), his IBF mandatory challenger. Triller stunned everyone by bidding high on the fight and winning the rights to it in late February, with Matchroom — also previously unaffiliated with either fighter — coming in second and Lopez’s promoters at Top Rank coming in a distant third, which hasn’t sat well with Teofimo.
Either date shapes up well for the currently schedule. If it’s May 29. it caps off what should be a really big month, also featuring Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders on May 8, possibly Devin Haney vs Jorge Linares on May 15, and Jose Ramirez vs Josh Taylor on May 22. If it’s June 5, it kicks off a month that could well include Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.
