Vergil Ortiz Jr and Maurice Hooker are ready to go for Saturday night on DAZN (9 pm ET), as the welterweights both came in fine on the scales today in Fort Worth, Texas, ahead of their 12-round fight.
Ortiz (16-0, 16 KO) and Hooker (27-1-3, 19 KO) both weighed in at the limit of 147 pounds. Hooker, a former 140-pound titleholder, did fight at a catchweight north of 140 in his last fight back in Dec. 2019, but this is his first serious fight at the new weight.
Ortiz is the strong betting favorite (around -1000 last I looked) and has the nod from all four of our staff pickers, but then we’re not always that smart.
