With Mexican light heavyweight Gilberto Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs) now campaigning under the banner of Golden Boy Promotions, Ramirez makes it clear to RingTV that he’s looking for a big fight to make a splash, and leaves no question as to who he has set in his sights.
“I’m targeting Artur Beterbiev,” Ramirez stated. “I think his return was a little dull for him. But he’s still the champion. He has two belts and those are two belts that I want.”
Ramirez continued by expressing his enthusiasm for now fighting under the banner of his idol Oscar De La Hoya, whom he grew up wanting to be like. And with Ramirez now looking to become a two-weight world titleholder, it’s no wonder that he’ll be calling out a current champion. Ramirez never really caught the traction Top Rank had hoped from the 29-year-old Mexican, but his new promoter will be looking to revitalize his brand.
In his last appearance this past December, Ramirez scored a 10th round stoppage win over Alfonso Lopez. His next outing has still yet to be determined.
