Filip Hrgovic vs Michael Hunter eliminator likely headed to purse bid

Hrgovic is promoted by the Sauerlands, while Hunter is a free agent

Kalle and Nisse Sauerland, who promote unbeaten heavyweight contender Filip Hrgovic, claim they’ve “called for purse bids” for their charge’s IBF-mandated final eliminator against Michael Hunter.

Hunter (19-1-1, 13 KO) previously worked with Matchroom, but has been a free agent since last July, Barring another “BAH GAWD THAT’S RYAN KAVANAUGH’S MUSIC” moment, this means the Sauerlands will almost certainly get full promotional control in a purse bid, making the hugely promising but still mostly untested Hrgovic (12-0, 10 KO) the A-side.

Between this and Hunter’s squash match with Shawn Laughery last December, I’m starting to think this free agency thing isn’t working out well for him.

All that aside, this remains an extremely solid matchup; Hunter can demonstrably hold his own against world-class opposition and Hrgovic at least passes the eye test. The winner may or may not actually get a title shot anytime soon, what with the ongoing Fury-Joshua shenanigans, but this figures to be entertaining on its own.
