Unbeaten super middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga has started making some real waves with his first round knockout streak, stopping his first 16 foes in the opening round, and while he’s reportedly got a return fight set for April 24 against Demond Nicholson, he also has his hopes for a June bout:

Berlanga, 23, would be making a pretty quick turnaround to fight April 24 and June 12, and Top Rank supposedly have a June 19 card coming with Mikaela Mayer, too, so they simply might not be planning to run June 12. Back-to-back weekends of boxing on ESPN are rare.

But it’s good to see a young fighter like Berlanga (16-0, 16 KO) wanting to do special stuff, too. Puerto Rican fighters headlining on Puerto Rican Day weekend is fun; Miguel Cotto was the most recent star fighter from the island to make it soimething of a tradition, fighting at MSG in June from 2005-07, 2009, and 2014, plus a 2010 fight at Yankee Stadium.
