Anthony Joshua: Team “working really hard” to get Tyson Fury fight done

AJ is sharing some optimism, which we haven’t heard much of from the Fury side.

Though Tyson Fury has expressed some doubt that a fight with Anthony Joshua is actually going to get done for this summer, Joshua says he and his team are “working really hard” on it, and hope to have good news soon.

The Fury side — particularly Tyson’s dad, John Fury — seem to believe the money simply isn’t there to put the fight on right now. Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has joined Joshua in expressing hope that it will happen in the summer, probably in July, but we’ve heard this sort of thing for months now about this fight, and while the deal for two fights is reportedly agreed, nothing is actually officially set with a date or venue, and it’s going to take a ton of money in a world just starting to peak through from the pandemic.

Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO) hasn’t fought since his Feb. 2020 win over Deontay Wilder, while Joshua (24-1, 22 KO) was last out in December, beating Kubrat Pulev.

Matchroom do have a show today in London, and Eddie Hearn has been known to drop some pretty big news during live events. Something could happen there, but this is big big news, so having it drop during Conor Benn vs Samuel Vargas does seem like a stretch.
