Ryan Garcia “can’t wait” for Javier Fortuna: “I’ll destroy you if I have to”

Garcia and Fortuna look set to meet in July

Ryan Garcia’s fight with Javier Fortuna does indeed look to be coming in July, as the 22-year-old Garcia posted an update to Instagram naming that as the rough fight date for the bout.

Garcia’s looking pretty cut as he prepares for what he expects to be a July date with Fortuna:

Garcia (21-0, 18 KO) won the interim WBC lightweight belt in January by knocking out Luke Campbell in the seventh round, but turned down the contractual option to fight WBC titleholder Devin Haney.

The logical move out of that would be for the WBC to have stripped Garcia of the “interim” tag and left him to figure out what he wants to do otherwise, but they’d also like to still make money off of Garcia’s fights so they’re just gonna call him “interim champion” and Haney “world champion” and Teofimo Lopez “franchise champion” and the three of them will just go along with it because they get a neat-o green belt that probably didn’t cost a tenth of what they’re paying in one fight’s worth of sanctioning fees. And at least one of them got a piece of paper, too!
