This really isn’t Jaime Munguia’s year.
Both Mike Coppinger and ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez report that unbeaten middleweight D’Mitrius Ballard, who stepped in for the injured Maciej Sulecki last week to fight Jaime Munguia on April 23rd, has himself withdrawn from the fight due to injury.
Per Rodriguez, Munguia (36-0, 29 KO) and his team “are waiting for information from Zanfer and Golden Boy” as to whether he’ll receive an opponent or the show will be rescheduled. The card currently features the latest from heavyweight prospect Arslanbek Makhmudov and WBC flyweight champ Ibeth Zamora defending her title against former Olympian Marlen Esparza.
This is the latest in a series of rapid-fire setbacks for Munguia, who also saw a rumored clash with Gennadiy Golovkin quietly fizzle out. Let’s hope we see the entertaining young bruiser back in action before too long and that Ballard (20-0-1, 13 KO), who’s coming up on two years of inactivity, can heal up quickly.
