Chris Eubank Jr says his main focus is fighting Gennadiy Golovkin for world title

Eubank says the Golovkin fight slipped through his fingers in the past.

British middleweight Chris Eubank Jr (29-2, 22 KOs) is set to be back in action this Saturday when he faces Marcus Morrison in Manchester, but the fight he says he’s really looking forward to is a bout against middleweight titleholder Gennadiy Golovkin.

Of course Eubank saying he’d like to fight Golovkin is nothing new — the two had been in negotiations to fight some years back — but that all fell apart when Golovkin accused Eubank of ‘losing his pen’ when it was time to get the fight signed and sealed. According to Eubank, however, Golovkin is still a target.

“He has a world title, the fans have been asking for the fight for years, it slipped through my fingers...My main focus is just fighting him and getting that world title.”

Eubank would continue on by emphasizing how he truly believes he would stop Golovkin in an action-packed fight and doesn’t for a second think that Golovkin could steal the show from him.

“I don’t believe he could out-punch or out-perform me. I’ve had that mind-set for years now. I have the perfect style to stop Golovkin even though it’s never been done before.”

With Golovkin now 39-years-old and clearly on the back end of his career there could be some questions as to how his style would fare against Eubank at this point — who has seemed to improve in his last couple of outings. But for the sake of discussion, would any of you give Eubank a shot to take out Golovkin if they were to fight this year? Let’s discuss in the comments below.
