Andy Ruiz Jr and Chris Arreola, both historically fluffy heavyweights, hit the scales today in fighting trim.

“The Destroyer” weighed in at 256 pounds, a full 27 and a half pounds lighter than in his disastrous rematch with Anthony Joshua, while “The Nightmare” came in at a career-low 228.5, showing it wasn’t just nice suits making him look fit this week.

It’s obviously a relief to see the 31-year-old Ruiz (33-2, 22 KO) showing the sort of physical improvement we expected from his partnership with Eddy Reynoso, but Arreola’s (38-6-1, 33 KO) transformation is truly remarkable. He was 244 for his 2019 clash with Adam Kownacki, where he shattered the heavyweight record for thrown punches, and he’s now 40 years old. Good to see him giving his all for what’s clearly his last chance.
