Junior flyweight titleholder Elwin Soto is the latest fighter to sign with Matchroom Boxing, with the WBO champion making the move away from Golden Boy ahead of a planned 108 lb title defense that is expected to be formally announced shortly.

“I’m very excited to announce my next defense and then going on to unify the division,” Soto said. Soto will continue to be co-promoted by Zanfer.

The 24-year-old champion most recently fought last October, taking a unanimous decision over Carlos Buitrago which was his second title defense since winning the belt against Angel Acosta in the summer of 2019.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has been pretty vocal about his plans to dispute the marketplace en route to turning his outfit into a global boxing brand recently, and mentioned that he certainly isn’t overly concerned about ruffling the feathers of his fellow promoters such as Oscar De La Hoya. We’ll see what Hearn has in store for Soto in the near future.
