While fellow super bantamweight titlists Luis Nery, Brandon Figueroa, and Stephen Fulton sort things out amongst themselves, unified IBF/WBA “super” champion has another mandatory to deal with. His previously ordered clash with Ronny Rios is officially headed to a May 24th purse bid after their respective sides failed to come to terms by the sixth.
The minimum bid is $150,000, and Akhmadaliev (9-0, 7 KO) will be the beneficiary of a 75/25 split.
As I’ve stated before, it’s a really solid matchup. Rios (33-3, 16 KO) bounced back brilliantly from a knockout loss to Azat Hovhannisyan with one-sided wins over Diego De La Hoya and Oscar Negrete, while Akhmadaliev’s strong performances against Daniel Roman and Ryosuke Iwasa have given him a legitimate claim to the division’s throne.
Fulton is already scheduled to meet the Nery-Figueroa winner on September 11th, so the stage is presumably set for an undisputed clash early next year.
