Tyson Fury is in Texas to see his friend Billy Joe Saunders take on Canelo Alvarez this Saturday, and while Canelo is a clear if not crazy betting favorite, Fury is leaning the other way, and hard.

“Absolutely, 100 percent (Saunders is) gonna smash this motherfucker. 100 percent,” Fury said. “I think he’s gonna give him a boxing lesson and smash him, stop him around about round 11 or 12. Really confident, honestly. Never been this confident about anything in me life.

“Billy’s gonna hit him with the jab, meet him straight with the jab, right in the mouth. Every time — ping, ping, ping! You’re gonna see something really special.

“Don’t make Canelo out to be some killer! He’s just a little man with a pair of boxing gloves on. That’s all he is.”

It has to again be noted that Fury is not always right about these things. That’s not to discount his opinion or anything, but he’s intensely loyal to the people he’s close with and friends with in the boxing world. He’s genuinely supportive, a guy who really hypes up the people he believes in. He said right about the same thing in support of Nathan Gorman against Daniel Dubois in 2019, and Dubois crushed Gorman inside of five rounds. (He also, at that same time, urged people not to discount Andy Ruiz Jr ahead of his first fight with Anthony Joshua, so Tyson also isn’t always wrong by any means.)

And of course, Fury couldn’t let a chance to speak go by — nor should he at this point — without sending a message straight to Anthony Joshua. The two are still negotiating a fight, and Eddie Hearn is still constantly saying that the deal will be done any time now, and then that it has to go through various channels, and then the deal will be done any time now, and then — but anyway.

“I’m a motherfucking killer,” he said. “And when I get AJ in the ring, I’m gonna smash his teeth right in for him, the big shithouse dosser.”
