WBC super featherweight champion Terri Harper announced today that in her final spar before next week’s planned unification against Hyun Mi Choi, she re-injured the hand she broke against Katharina Thanderz back in November.

Matchroom has not announced whether the card will proceed without her, but my money’s on Joshua Buatsi’s bout with Daniel Blenda Dos Santos slotting into the headlining role. It presently also features a trio of European title fights with recognizable names like Gamal Yafai, Tommy McCarthy, and Lerrone Richards, plus Dalton Smith vs. Lee Appleyard for the English super lightweight title.

It’s definitely a heartbreak for Harper (11-0-1, 6 KO), especially after the effort Matchroom invested in setting up her road to unification with its signings of Choi and IBF champ Maiva Hamadouche. Still, as “Belter” says, she’s still young and has plenty of time to recover. Let’s just hope it doesn’t become a recurring issue.
