During this conversation with Fight Hub TV, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn talks a bit about tomorrow’s super middleweight title unification between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders, specifically addressing Saunders’ claims of Hearn showing preference to Canelo. Hearn also gives a quick update on when we can next expect to see Gennadiy Golovkin back in the ring.
Hearn on Saunders accusing him of backing Canelo in this fight
“I think a lot of the concerns that they had have been addressed. I think part of it is to feel like the underdog, you know, back against the wall, it’s us against the world — and that’s what Billy likes. And that’s why he’s dangerous in this fight because he won’t be bothered by the crowd, he won’t crumble under the pressure, he’ll be as good as he can be. Now if that’s good enough, we’ll see on Saturday.
How to Watch Canelo vs Saunders
“I think it’s the toughest fight for Canelo in the division. I think Billy has the style to cause anyone nightmares. You just never know until you’re thrown in to that spot. If you look at Billy’s resume you say he hasn’t boxed anyone the level of Canelo Alvarez but he has beaten people very well. He is undefeated, he is two-weight world champion. You just never know how good someone is until they step up to that level. He believes he’s good enough to mix it with Canelo but only time will tell.
“I’m irrelevant in this situation, it’s just about those guys, they’ve got their opportunities and on we go.”
On what’s on deck for Gennadiy Golovkin:
“Gennadiy Golovkin is talking about fighting Murata in December. I was quite vocal after the Andrade fight where I feel that fight is just there to get made with Golovkin and Andrade. I see Golovkin would be a favorite in that fight. We’re looking for that opportunity for Demetrius Andrade but I think Gennadiy may end up — I know we’re only in May now — but September, October is gonna come around quite quickly and that’s when his camp would start for his fight for Murata in December. So I think that’s a big focus for him.”
