Dan Rafael reports that former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, who tested positive for four different banned substances last month ahead of a planned rematch against Badou Jack, failed another drug test taken around two weeks after the previous samples.
Unfortunately for those hoping to see potentially record-breaking fifth and sixth substances, it’s just two of the ones they caught before: the anabolic steroid drostanolone and blood doping agent EPO.
Pascal (35-6-1, 20 KO), who still maintains his innocence, fired his strength and conditioning coach after the initial failures and vowed to “come out of pocket for the most advanced 365 days random VADA testing available to boxers” if necessary to clear his name. According to Rafael, it’s “unclear” whether he’s asked his B samples to be tested.
I’d very much like for Pascal to be innocent so I can continue celebrating his wonky upset of Marcus Browne, but the chances are looking pretty damn remote at this point. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve seen the last of the 38-year-old in the ring.
