Rolando Romero still looking to land a fight with Gervonta Davis

Romero says it’s a fight that can easily be made with both fighters aligned with the same outfit.

In a conversation with Fight Hype, lightweight Rolando Romero weighs in on Gervonta Davis’ latest performance, stopping Mario Barrios, and reiterates his interest in fighting Davis as soon as he can. When specifically asked about Davis, Romero replied in part:

“I want Gervonta Davis,” Romero said. “That’s who I want...It’s a fight that can be made for sure, so hopefully that fight can happen at 135. Or you know what, even 140. I actually want that fight more at 140.”

When asked whether or not he needed a few more fights under his belt before being ready for a fight of that magnitude, Romero responded:

“At the end of it I’m still a world level fighter and I’m the hardest puncher in the world under 147 pounds so nobody can say shit about it. I can hurt him. Gervonta has power, he can crack, I can’t take that away from him. But like I said, I’m a harder puncher. I’m a harder puncher, I’m longer, I’m awkward, and like I said he’s like this fuckin’ tall . So it’s gonna be very interesting, I’m very explosive. Two very explosive fighters, but I’m more explosive.”

Romero (13-0, 11 KOs) is currently slated to face Anthony Yigit (24-1-1, 8 KOs) on this weekend’s Showtime card, headlined by Jermell Charlo’s undisputed 154-pound unification match with Brian Castano.
