Roger Gutierrez will face Rene Alvarado in a trilogy bout on Aug. 14, serving as the co-feature for Golden Boy’s Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas card on DAZN.

Gutierrez (25-3-1, 20 KO) scored a minor upset over Alvarado (32-8, 21 KO) on Jan. 2 in Dallas on the Garcia-Campbell show, winning a tight decision on unanimous scores of 113-112 across the board, with Alvarado down three times in the fight, twice in the third round and once in the 12th, with the one in the 12th round making the final difference between a draw and a loss.

Gutierrez won the WBA’s “world” (regular, fake, whatever) 130 lb title with the victory.

Alvarado, 32, had been on a very strong run prior to that, winning eight straight, including a seventh round stoppage win over Gutierrez, 26, back in 2017.

The card will also feature Rene’s twin brother, Felix, defending his IBF junior flyweight title. Felix (36-2, 31 KO) will face Erick Lopez (16-5-1, 10 KO). Opening the DAZN broadcast is an intriguing 140 lb fight between veteran Pablo Cesar Cano (33-7-1, 23 KO) and Danielito Zorrilla (15-0, 11 KO).

Also set for the show on streaming prelims:

  • Alex Martin (16-3, 6 KO) vs Josec Ruiz (22-4-3, 15 KO) in a 10-round junior welterweight fight
  • George Rincon (11-0, 7 KO) in another 10-round junior welterweight fight
  • Leonardo Baez (19-4, 10 KO) vs Hector Valdez (14-0, 8 KO) in a 10-round junior featherweight bout
  • Alex Rincon (8-0, 6 KO) vs Sanny Duversonne (11-3-2, 8 KO), in an eight-round 154 lb bout
