Sunny Edwards vs Jayson Mama official for Sept. 11

Edwards will be making the first defense of his IBF flyweight title.

Sunny Edwards is officially set to make the first defense of his IBF flyweight title, facing mandatory challenger Jayson Mama on Saturday, Sept. 11, at London’s Copper Box Arena.

Edwards (16-0, 4 KO) proved himself a true world class operator by taking the belt from long running top flyweight Moruti Mthalane on Apr. 30, and the 25-year-old “Showtime” is going to be a very tough guy to look good against, let alone beat. He’s got the sort of style that is going to make long nights for anyone.

Mama (16-0, 9 KO) is a 24-year-old Filipino, nicknamed “Smasher,” who hasn’t really faced much by way of top competition, but then neither had Edwards prior to Mthalane. If Mama can go, this might be a really good fight between two young 115 lb fighters. If he can’t, Edwards will probably frustrate the hell out of him.

Nothing else has been made official for the show just yet. BT Sport will have TV in the United Kingdom, and somehow or other there will probably be U.S. availability, too, ESPN+ or FITE or whatever.
