Oscar De La Hoya wants two exhibition fights before facing either Floyd Mayweather or Canelo Alvarez

De La Hoya says he’s gearing up to potentially face his former protege.

Hall of Fame boxer and Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya continues to tell the world about his plans to return to the ring for some action, most recently joining the Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast to explain how he wants to get in a couple of exhibition bouts before coming back for real against two of the biggest stars in the sport.

“This is what’s happening, okay,” De La Hoya began. “This might be my fighter juices flowing again and first of all, you inspired me, Mike...looking as good as you did against Roy who’s a master, and just for coming back you inspired me so I said I wanna do it too. But in the back of my head my demons are telling me ‘no, you gotta do it motherfucker.’

“I want to do two of these fights and then guess what, I want to do a real fight, a 12-round fight, with either Floyd or Canelo.”

It’s no secret that De La Hoya and Mayweather have had a longstanding rivalry dating back over a decade now, and although De La Hoya used to previously promote Canelo, there was a lot of friction between the two and no love lost when split. It seems to me that De La Hoya potentially fight Mayweather again versus fighting a prime Canelo are two quite different prospects, but De La Hoya is usually not one to shy away from the controversial.
