Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced at the July 31 Fight Camp show that Liam Smith will face Anthony Fowler in an Oct. 9 main event in Liverpool, England, and Matchroom have now added some official undercard bouts, plus the pro debut of Great Britain Olympian Peter McGrail.
McGrail, 25, lost his first bout in Tokyo on July 24, dropping a decision to Chatchai-decha Butdee, the standout veteran from Thailand. He won bronze medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, and gold at the 2018 Commonwealth games. He figures to fight as a featherweight or junior lightweight to start as a professional.
The featured undercard bout will see Ted Cheeseman (17-2-1, 10 KO) defend his British 154 lb title against Troy Williamson (16-0-1, 12 KO), which could be a real show stealer. Both guys have some power and come to fight, and Cheeseman in particularly is reliably good TV.
Kieron Conway (16-2-1, 3 KO) will face JJ Metcalf (21-1, 13 KO) in another junior middleweight bout, and Liverpool native Luke Willis (10-0, 1 KO) will take on Rylan Charlton (6-1-1, 3 KO).
