Notes: Kid Galahad was dominant in claiming the IBF featherweight title on Saturday, beating Jazza Dickens thoroughly and forcing a stoppage after 11 rounds. Neither the result nor the manner in which it came was really a surprise, as Galahad had stopped Dickens back in 2013, too, and while both of them are better fighters now than they were then, Dickens never on paper had much that was going to trouble Galahad, brave as he is in the ring. Galahad immediately and quite hilariously dumped on two fights that Matchroom could pretty easily put together — Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington — leaving Eddie Hearn standing without much to say in the post-fight interview, which may have been the biggest thing Galahad accomplished on Saturday, really. Either one could still happen (Warrington needs to win on Sept. 4, obviously) but it was good, awkward TV. A really intriguing possible matchup would be Galahad against Mauricio Lara, of course, if Lara beats Warrington again.

Upcoming Fights: (5) Mauricio Lara vs (6) Josh Warrington, Sept. 4

Upcoming Fights: (2) Stephen Fulton Jr vs (3) Brandon Figueroa, Sept. 11 ... (4) Danny Roman vs (10) Ra’eese Aleem, Sept. 11 ... (1) Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs (8) Ronny Rios, TBA

Notes: Lee McGregor didn’t have his best showing on Friday, which sounds weird because he stopped Vincent LeGrand inside of four rounds, but he got the win without any debate or anything, and he moves forward. He’s in an odd spot. At 24, he has the clear potential to be a top-level, world class guy. He’s also pretty clearly going to be too much at the domestic or European levels, though Kash Farooq might argue about that, and setting up that rematch now would be a fine idea. But McGregor is probably still a few fights and just as importantly a few good training camps away from being fully ready for the top class opponents. He might already do well, but when you have someone with this potential, it’s a better idea to be 100 percent sure when you step him up.
