Lopez vs Kambosos: George Kambosos confident in his preparation, says distractions will catch up to Teofimo Lopez

Kambosos says he’s very confident that he’ll pull off the win over Teofimo Lopez.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

George Kambosos Jr took some time to chat with Fight Hype leading into his title fight with Teofimo Lopez and discusses his expectations for the bout, saying he believes Lopez isn’t focused and will pull out a bunch of excuses after he loses. Here’s some excerpts of what Kambosos has to say with the full video interview in the link above.

On why he thinks more people are starting to believe in his chances against Lopez

“I’m preparing, people see how hungry I am. They’re not dumb, and they can see how he is. They can see his whole charisma — kid’s not focused. He’s distracted like crazy, he’s missing sessions left, right, and center. A few weeks ago he’s out partying, drinking and, yeah, it was a family celebration — okay — but think about what I’ve had to miss out from my family, the celebrations I’ve had to miss out to put everything into this fight.

“So all these 1% things — he blew out again, he put weight on, he’s got to drop all that weight again. All the 1% things catches up and I’ve said it, ‘the one-percenters catch up, kid, and you’ll learn the hard way.’ Now there’s gonna be a lot of excuses. I’ve said I know there’s gonna be a lot of excuses after this fight — the COVID, he’s got asthma, his lungs...I’m just focused on what I’ve got to do am I’m just confident.”
