Triller’s Saturday show has lost yet another bit of star power. Dan Rafael reports that Jim Lampley, who signed a “multi-fight deal” with the promotion in June, has withdrawn from his lead commentator role.
Lampley himself has not released a statement on the reason for his exit. It’s unclear at the moment whether co-commentator Shawn Porter will take over for him or whether former President Donald Trump’s “alternate commentary” will be slotted in.
Lampley spent three decades calling fights for both HBO Boxing and myriad Olympic Games. If his contract is flexible enough that he can pick and choose his events, I can’t exactly blame him for sitting this one out. Oscar De La Hoya vs. Vitor Belfort is one thing, but throwing damaged goods like Holyfield into the ring at 58 years old is something to distance yourself from.
Just two days to go; let’s see how much more nonsense they can cram into these 48 hours.
