‘The fight is dead in the water’: Kalle Sauerland says talks for Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn have ceased

Although the fighters have wanted the fight, it just doesn’t appear to be in the cards for them.

As much interest as Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn have shown in facing one another, the pair have once again failed to get a fight between them off as promoter Kalle Sauerland tells Sky Sports that talks between the fighters have fallen apart.

“I can confirm that the negotiations around a potential Eubank-Benn clash for early next year have finished. The parties were not able to reach a commercial understanding and the negotiations have now ceased and the fight is dead in the water at this minute.”

Eubank Jr and Benn had previously agreed to a fight that would ultimately get derailed by Benn testing positive for a banned substance. Benn has continued to maintain his innocence on that front, but the issue has proven to remain problematic for him. That has proven itself evident as that fight would make the most sense in the UK from a commercial standpoint, but the British Boxing Board of Control aren’t on board.

So Sauerland would continue by saying that he’s also received an order from the IBO for Eubank to make a mandatory defense of that belt, with those details still to be worked out. Meanwhile, Eubank Jr is also rated as the #1 contender with the WBO at 160 pounds, so there’s potential for him to go that route as well.

There’s plenty on the table for Eubank Jr, according to Sauerland, and he says they plan to leverage their position into a big upcoming year for Eubank Jr.
