Highlights!

  • We’ve really only got the one thing of note this week, which is of course more than the usual no things of note on this week any other year.
  • On DAZN PPV Saturday, it’s Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder! After all these years! They’re finally fighting other people in separate bouts on the same show!
  • The Saudis are calling the card “Day of Reckoning” for some reason, and have given it a zombie theme in promotional material. They did a kinda cool commercial with a lot of production value but I still don’t really get the theme or the name other than one looks cool and the other sounds cool, and honestly, that’s probably plenty enough reason. At least it’s not “Repeat or Revenge” or “Who R U Picking?”

Wednesday, Dec. 20

DAZN, 3:00 am ET, Conor Wallace vs Mose Auimatagi Jr. A lil’ show from Australia. Nothing wrong with a lil’ show from Australia! If you’re a 3 am ET person then hey, there’s some boxing on, and fights on shows like this can be a plain hoot. Now me, I’m not really a 3 am on Wednesday person at this level anymore, so it’s a no for me, but it’s out there!

DAZN and Social Media, 11:00 am ET, Day of Reckoning open workout.

Thursday, Dec. 21

DAZN and Social Media, 11:00 am ET, Day of Reckoning press conference. Will have some quotes and whatnot after.

Friday, Dec. 22

DAZN and Social Media, 11:00 am ET, Day of Reckoning weigh-in. It’s mostly heavyweights so it doesn’t necessarily matter what they weigh, but Bivol-Arthur and Opetaia-Zorro are weight-making affairs, and Big Baby Miller will weigh something, so there you go.

Saturday, Dec. 23

DAZN PPV, 11:00 am ET, Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin / Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker. The PPV is priced at $39.99 through DAZN, which is at least a minor break on what is really a horrendous date and start time for boxing fans in the U.S., and the date is rough in many DAZN territories, too. The start time is what’s listed as of now, and makes sense, as this is a packed show in size if not necessarily particularly interesting fights that anyone was asking to see. Gonna be a long one, folks. Buckle up for that pre-Christmas marathon. Along with Joshua and Wilder in action up top — with an eye toward them fighting one another in March — we’ve got (deep breath) Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur, Daniel Dubois vs Jarrell Miller, Jai Opetaia vs Ellis Zorro (which might cost Opetaia his IBF belt on an incredibly stupid technicality), Filip Hrgovic vs Mark De Mori (GREAT opponent, Fil), Frank Sanchez vs Junior Fa, and Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Agit Kabayel. I’ll be here. BLH will have live updates and results.
