O’Shaquie Foster vs Abraham Nova official for February 16th in New York

O’Shaquie Foster knocked out Eduardo Hernandez in his inaugural defense this past October

Patrick Stumberg is a freelance writer for SB Nation, first joining the network in 2011 before linking up with Bad Left Hook in 2015.

O’Shaquie Foster’s second title defense won’t be the unification we hoped for, but it still looks like a good one, as Top Rank revealed today that “Ice Water” will meet Abraham Nova atop a February 16th ESPN show at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Foster (21-2, 12 KO), less than two months removed from his dramatic come-from-behind knockout of Rocky Hernandez, is set for his quickest turnaround since 2018 after managing just three fights in the last three years. It’s good to see him keeping up the momentum from his breakout 2023, and I’m sure those who saw his heroics against Hernandez won’t complain about seeing him in action again so soon.

Foster said, “It’s always been my dream to fight at Madison Square Garden, and what better promoter to make this all happen than Top Rank? As a kid, watching all the greats fight at MSG inspired me to want to be a part of the history that comes with fighting at such a legendary place. I’m ready to put on a show and keep proving that I’m the best fighter in the world.”

Nova (23-1, 16 KO) fell short in a June 2022 clash of prospects with Robeisy Ramirez, prompting a move from 126 to 130. He’s since outclassed veteran tough guy Adam Lopez and demolished Jonathan Romero; neither of those are huge wins, but he definitely seems to have his confidence back after the Ramirez loss and should make for an entertaining battle with Foster.

“My team and I have earned this opportunity to bring a world title back home,” Nova said. “You know what I bring, and you know what I’m about. No fear, no doubt.”

If I were Top Rank, I’d up the stakes by having them fight for custody of Nova’s mascot. Take off the beard and change the hair and I’m sure it could make for a passable Foster.
