Ohara Davies vs Ismael Barroso rescheduled for January 6th Ortiz vs Lawson co-feature

TBA is currently slated to play double duty against Arnold Barboza Jr and Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Ohara Davies’ visa issues won’t delay his interim title fight with Ismael Barroso for too much longer, as Golden Boy announced today that the bout will lead into Vergil Ortiz Jr’s January 6th return against Fredrick Lawson.

Davies (25-2, 18 KO) and Barroso (24-4-2, 22 KO) were supposed to square off last Saturday as the co-feature for Ryan Garcia vs Oscar Duarte, but “Two Tanks” failed to make it to the States. As others have pointed out, Davies had a very cozy relationship with accused international drug kingpin Daniel Kinehan, which may or may not have proved an issue here.

In any event, the delay shouldn’t conflict with the original plan of having the winner be ready to welcome Rolly Romero back from injury.

Also of note is the Golden Boy debut of super lightweight contender Arnold Barboza Jr (28-0, 10 KO). Barboza was previously ordered to fight Jose Ramirez in an eliminator that both sides apparently just gave up on; he’s still the top contender with the WBO, but there’s no telling when he’ll actually get a crack at the vocally dismissive Teofimo Lopez.

Barboza faces TBA, as does Sergiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KO) in the latter’s first fight since his terrific battle with Jaime Munguia.

Raul Curiel, Tristan Kalkreuth, Johnny Cañas, and Emiliano Gandara see action on the YouTube prelims.
