Lost in the Funhouse: Victor Ortiz W12 Andre Berto

2
A sharp and focused Victor Ortiz thrashed Andre Berto in a savage—if slightly one-sided—bout, on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort & Casino, scoring a unanimous decision over 12 grisly rounds in a fight that featured multiple knockdowns. Final scores were 114-111, 115-110, and an imprecise 114-112. With the loss, the parallel universe career of Andre Berto gets its first does of reality in years. Somehow Berto, who is more Quiznos than caviar, became a meal ticket for Al Haymon and Lou DiBella, despite the fact that Berto has long been little more than a figment of the feverish HBO imagination. Hard Case: Juan Manuel Lopez-Orlando Salido Preview

+
Juan Manuel Lopez has used a lethal right hook to overwhelm the vast majority of his opponents. Lopez’ hook—now considered one of the more dominant weapons in boxing—felled respectable names like Bernabe Concepcion, Steven Luevano, and Gerry Penalosa, and eventually submerged legendary action figure but shopworn Rafael Marquez in the biggest bout of the 27-year-old’s career. Saturday night at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, he’ll be facing a hardened veteran who has proven to be difficult to overwhelm. By Michael Nelson of The Cruelest Sport.

Why Against Why: Andre Berto-Victor Ortiz Preview

+
Two of the biggest enigmas in boxing—Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz—face off on Saturday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, in a bout that ought to be held at the Overlook Hotel or, perhaps, in the broom closet of an odditorium. Both men are prime examples of modern boxing hocus pocus, where a largely unremarkable form of abracadabra is achieved simply by fooling increasingly gullible television network executives and the readers of leastsideboxing.com.
