Adonis Stevenson, David Lemieux, and Jermell Charlo scored wins last night on Showtime.

ADONIS STEVENSON

"I told everybody (Fonfara) is strong. He's been training since December. He is ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the world. He was ready for this fight. I never overlooked him because he's a tough fighter."

"I accept any challenge. Bernard can be next. And I have no problem with Kovalev. If I fight him I fight him."

ANDRZEJ FONFARA

"I survived because I have the heart to fight. Every time he hit me I felt the punch. Tonight Stevenson is better. I'm still young. I'm only 26 years old. I'm training hard and one day I'll be a world champion."

DAVID LEMIEUX

"I knew Fernando Guerrero is a very strong fighter. Very tough. He's been down many times and always gets back up. Once I started to land my shots I could see it in his eyes that the game started to change.

"The results in the ring are from my dedication and my training. I want to tip my hat to Fernando Guerrero. He is a great fighter. I studied him for many months prior to the fight. So I am very happy with the outcome."

"I'm determined to be a world champion. I would love to fight anyone in the world at 160."

JERMELL CHARLO

"To me, I slipped. I didn't feel the solid shot. He hit me with the right hand. He just caught me off balance. But it is what it is.

"This was a rough one. I did what I had to do tonight."

Adonis Stevenson talks about a hand injury, his body shots, and the crowd backing him in Montreal for his win over Andrzej Fonfara.

How do you feel, champ?

"I feel great. I feel good. I've kept my title, and the Ring Magazine (title), too. So I feel very good."

At times, you were fighting with your hands down, and he was following you. Was it that you didn't respect his power, or were you baiting him in?

"I hurt my left hand, so I kept my hands down a little bit, but I was hurt, so I changed my game plan. I was moving around and jabbing."

Even with a hurt hand, though, those body shots. Just devastating. What was it with him that you knew the body shot as opposed to the head shot was going to be effective?

"Yeah. Down, down, down, down. I kept working on the body shots, to catch him with the body shots."

Certainly the fans were with you this evening. How did that help you, especially in the later rounds?

"I love that! I'm a true warrior. I love that, man. I'm exciting. I give the fans what they want, exciting fights. Emanuel Steward always told me, if you're exciting, give the fans what they need. Exciting fights. It was an exciting fight."

David Lemieux discusses his dominant win over Fernando Guerrero as well as his options going forward.

First round, you started to impose your will. When did you know you had him in trouble?

"In the first round, I got him with a left hook. I could see in his eye right away, like, he didn't like that. It was only a matter of time from then on. He's a very good fighter, so I always had to be careful of his counter shot. He was also looking for the one-punch glory, so I always had to be careful. I had my hands up. I did what I had to do when I saw the openings."

In the third round, you knocked him out with that uppercut. Is that the best weapon in your arsenal?

"It just came along. We've been practicing at the gym. It's not often we fight southpaws, but my trainer Marc Ramsay saw that my uppercut was coming in in my sparring. He said, 'Alright, so when you're inside, use this shot, then come in with the hook.' So as we had practiced, I got him with the shot, and it just came naturally."

You obviously have power in both hands, because the left hook opened up the cut. When he took the knee, what did you think? Were you surprised?

"No, I wasn't surprised. I knew Guerrero was a very tough guy. I knew he was gonna get back up, even if I knocked him down. But the shots I got him with, they were not just knockdown shots, they were painful shots. It hurt him, like, also mentally. It slowed him down a lot. That's when I started cutting him down both mentally and physically."

You made a name for yourself tonight in the States, we're wondering, who would you like to fight next?

"I've just been concentrating on Guerrero, but there's a window of opportunities for me. For sure, Quillin is in the division. I'm ready to fight anybody. Given the strategy, given the timing, given the money, of course, I'm ready to fight anybody."

Jermell Charlo gives his thoughts on his win over Charlie Ohta in Montreal.

First of all, congratulations on the victory. How difficult was this fight for you?

"It was a difficult fight. Charlie Ohta came to fight. He was strong, solid, older guy, had a little experience. He came to win."

You lumped that eye up, and they were really trying to work on it, but it was difficult to finish him off.

"It was. It was difficult even to try to bust the eye open, because he had his guard up pretty high. I give big props to Charlie Ohta. I did what I had to do tonight. I was the better man. I outboxed him. I didn't let him get too close to me. He did get close to me, he hit me with some shots. But we're going to go back to the drawing board and work on these things. That's how you get better."

Round three when you went down, what happened there? Was it a slip, were your feet tangled up?

"Actually, I threw a punch, I missed with that shot. He came back and countered with the right hand. I was already off-balance when I missed the shot, and he hit me, floored me. That's what happens. First time in my career, first time in my life, actually, that I've ever went down. It was a solid shot. That's all I can say."

How did you feel? Did you feel a sense of urgency when you got up?

"I was frustrated. When I got up, I was, like, 'God, Ronnie, you know I've never been down.' This stuff happens. I've seen one of the champions in our gym right now, he went down twice in the ring. And you know, they took a point away from me. There was a lot of stuff going on in that fight. A lot of controversy and adversity I felt like I fought through. I got the victory. 12th round, I boxed. I just wanted to take my time. I wasn't trying to knock him out. I was trying to knock him out earlier in the fight, I hurt him a couple times. I even felt a body shot land so perfectly. Charlie Ohta's just tough."

Adonis Stevenson didn't have it easy against Andrzej Fonfara, but he clearly won and successfully defended his light heavyweight crown tonight in Montreal.

Adonis Stevenson retained his WBC and Ring Magazine light heavyweight titles tonight in Montreal, beating Andrzej Fonfara in a fight where both hit the deck, but the action was mostly one-sided for the defending champion, who won on scores of 115-110, 115-110, and 116-109. BLH had it slightly wider, at 117-108 for Stevenson.

Stevenson (24-1, 20 KO) dropped Fonfara in the opening round, and the fight had all the hallmarks of a quick blowout at that point. But the Polish-born Chicagoan challenger hung tough, stayed in the fight, and was as gritty as they come, showing a lot of toughness while Stevenson dominated the first half of the fight, and swept the first eight rounds on our scorecard. Fonfara went down again on a body shot in the fifth round, but again valiantly battled on.

In the ninth round, though, Fonfara (25-3, 15 KO) knocked down Stevenson with a good right hand, and all of a sudden, we had a fight on our hands. Stevenson played keepaway the remainder of that round, and looked like he had pretty badly gassed out. But in the 10th, Stevenson showed his own grit and heart, turning the fight back around with a big offensive frame. They fought on through the final two rounds, with Stevenson and Fonfara trading blows, and both men doing their best to claim the night. In the end, that was Stevenson.

Asked by Showtime's Jim Gray about the knockdown in the ninth round, Stevenson replied, "Who doesn't get knocked down? Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones, all the best go down. But I came back strong. I still came back strong, because I'm a true champion."

The 36-year-old champion also said that he injured his hand injury in the bout when he hit Fonfara on the elbow, and had to box more from that point. But he took nothing away from the toughness of Fonfara, saying, "I told everybody he's strong. He was ready for the fight. I was never overlooking him, because I knew he was a tough fight. He's a true fighter."

Fonfara told Gray, "I survived because I have the heart to fight, you know? Every time he hit me, I felt his punch. He's a great fighter. I think it was a great fight, and the fans liked it. Tonight, Stevenson was better. But I'm still young. I'm just 26 years old. I'll train hard, and one day I'll be world champion."

He continued, "In the ninth round, I got him right on the chin. I didn't want to go crazy, because maybe he'd counter me. But he survived. He got knocked down, but he came back. I got knocked down, I came back. It was a good fight."

Gray's questions for Stevenson ended with probes about who will be next, as he brought up the favored fight, Showtime and Golden Boy main event guy Bernard Hopkins, but also did mention Sergey Kovalev, the name that continues to hound Stevenson.

"Bernard can be next. I'll let Al Haymon negotiate for that," Stevenson said, before asking the Montreal crowd, "All my fans, do you want Bernard Hopkins?"

Gray then shifted to Kovalev, and Stevenson continued to say what he's been saying: "No problem with Kovalev. If I fight him, I fight him. Al Haymon's going to negotiate that, with Yvon Michel. I'm the true champion."
